The thoracic spine is often overlooked, yet it plays a vital role in posture and fluid shoulder movement. Tightness here can limit motion and cause discomfort in the upper back and neck.
Evidence shows that static stretching, particularly after warming up or exercising, enhances flexibility and helps joints move through their full range, which lowers injury risk and improves muscular function. Focusing on the thoracic area is especially beneficial since stiffness here restricts shoulder mobility.[1] [3]

- Warm up gently—think walking or shoulder rolls.
- Grab a towel: one hand reaches over your shoulder, the other behind your back holding the towel.
- Gently pull the towel, creating a soft stretch between your shoulder blades.
- Hold for about 30 seconds, breathing normally.
- Repeat 2–3 times per day or after workouts.
